Gajewski [DID NOT] Miss Meeting [UPDATED!]
For those who were planning to go to this evening’s Mayor and Council meeting to watch >top vote-getter Piotr Gajewski get sworn in (his colleagues were sworn in last month), you will need to wait until next week, December 10.
[UPDATE: Brigitta Mullican, a candidate for city council, writes: Piotr Gajewski did make the meeting tonight and was sworn in by Mayor Hoffman. However, he did miss the first part of the Council meeting.]
The conductor-councilman’s plane from Europe (where he is part of an international musical event) has been delayed and so he can’t make it home in time.
I can relate. I spent a day longer than I intended to in Las Vegas just last week, grounded by — of all things — rain.

He scheduled his flight so close to the Council meeting, surely he must have known this was a risk. Couldn’t he have left a day earlier? It has been nearly a month since the election and he has still not shown up, not even to get sworn in.>
I fear that Mr. Gajewski may not fully appreciate the seriousness of the responsibility he has been entrusted with… The public that elected him with more votes than anyone else has a right to ask: where are his priorities?
This trip was a committment he made way before he ever considered even running for office. I bet you couldn’t get back to DC today from Boston on time, much less Europe. Let’s not jump to such conclusions so hastily.
I don’t think the earlier writer was jumping to any conclusions, just asking a question. Will Gajewski continue to place his personal responsibilities above his public responsibilities? Only time will tell. I agree we should give him the benefit of the doubt and wait to see if this becomes a pattern.
