When you think about revolutionizing home media you might not think about Rockville, MD but you should because we are the home of Hillcrest Labs.

If you like the point and click technology of your computer mouse or electronic game, you are going to love the devices that Hillcrest is one step closer to bringing to your home. Today PRNewswire announced a license agreement with Universal Electronics Inc. of Southern California to explore potential products with Hillcrest’s patented Freespace™ technology.

Freespace™ is not your typical motion detection technology because it senses motion in three dimensions. This means you could click and point a device at your TV or computer screen standing up, laying down, or on your head. It will get it right even if you have hand tremors.

Logitech already uses the Freespace™ technology in its Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse which allows you to control your PC with a mouse that does not need to touch the desk. Since it is capable of in-air navigation, you don’t need to sit directly in front of your screen when watching videos or listening to music.

Another hardware application designed with Freespace is The Loop. With this device you could potentially control all the media in your living room with two buttons and scroll wheel. This one minute video from CNET demonstrates that it’s so simple, a small child can use it.

In today’s world we constantly find ourselves with additional TV channels, more videos, new music sources, and innovative electronic games. How many remotes do you own? Do you wish you could see all of your search choices on your TV and just zoom in on the one you want? Our friends at Hillcrest want to make their vision a reality for our homes. As they join together with Universal Electronics, our ever-expanding media choices might just become simple to control.
