amily are invited to a free event, the Dedication Ceremony and Celebration of the MATTIE J.T. STEPANEK PARK. The day begins at 9:45 a.m. with the Montgomery County Pipes and Drums Band and a procession led by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. The formal ceremony begins at 10 am with musical performances and remarks from several government officials and celebrities. Before the unveiling of Mattie’s statue in the new Peace Garden, a 100-voice choir will perform a song based on Mattie’s final peace speech, and that was written by composer Pepper Choplin for this event. After the formal ceremony the celebration begins, with Robert Galinsky – a New York City producer, performer, poet, actor, activist and town crier — as emcee. Entertainment highlights include:- Teen Band Creation performances, including “Stop Be Silent” (based on Mattie’s peace poetry) – New York’s “Headshop Guerilla Comedy Group” leading audience participation improv – A grand finale including musician Nile Rodgers and Chic member Sylver Logan Sharp singing Nile’s signature song, “We Are Family.” Activity highlights include: – Free barbeque for 1,000 people, courtesy King Farm Citizens Assembly – Chess-a-Thon, Bank Shot, & other demonstrations and mini-tournaments – Moon bounce, field games, “Fire Fighter Follies”, arts & crafts and more – Fire truck and Harley Davidson display area – Free give-away items throughout the event (t-shirts, music CDs, books) – Free raffle drawings for unique prizes during the 1:30 pm finale The dedication event will take place rain or shine. Some seating will be available, but lawn chairs and blankets (and extra munchies) are suggested. The Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park is located in Rockville, MD at Gaither Rd and Piccard Dr (just off of I-270 Exit 8: Shady Grove Road) Mattie J.T. Stepanek, a seven-time NY Times bestselling author, is remembered as “a poet, a peacemaker, and a philosopher who played.” He died in 2004, a few weeks before his 14th birthday, due to a rare neuromuscular disease. Dr. Cragnolino has had a long-term interest in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, with special interest in the assessment and diagnosis of ADHD, learning disabilities, and comorbid conditions such as depression and anxiety.
