Run For Rockville City Office! [UPDATE: Who's Pulled Papers So Far]
It is just about my favorite time of year — well, favorite every two years. If you are interested in running for >City Council or Mayor, you can now obtain and file the forms you need to do so!
We reside in the oldest, longest-running experiment in self-governance on the planet. The Framers of the Constitution did not necessarily think that our little effort would last. But last it has — in large part due to the strength of our local elected office holders.
So, please consider joining their ranks!
The requirements are simple, according to the City’s press release:
Elections in Rockville are non-partisan. Candidacy is open to any person 18
years of age or older who meets the following qualifications for office:
- 1. Persons must be registered voters, having resided in the City for at least one year immediately preceding the elections.
- 2. Persons wishing to be placed on the ballot as a candidate must be nominated by a petition meeting certain requirements:
- a. The petition must be filed with the Board of Supervisors of Elections at least 60 calendar days preceding the general election. The 2009 deadline for filing is Sept. 4.
- b. The petition must be signed by at least 100 registered voters who reside within the incorporated limits of the City of Rockville.

That’s as of 4:45 pm today.
