>blueskyThis year Senior Services added a new program, the Postive Aging Project. The goal is to help seniors “be happy”. Many people are not aware of this fledgling program. Often participation by seniors needs to be encouraged by those who care about them.

The Child Center and Adult Services organization which runs the program at our Rockville Senior Center states:

Nearly one in five seniors has a mental health problem that is more than “normal” difficulties in adjustment. Many do not get help.

The early intervention program offered at the Rockville Senior Center offers individual assessment and short-term counseling. Seniors may need help dealing with living alone, handling a chronic illness, or communicating with adult children.

If you know of someone who could benefit call the Senior Center (240) 314-8800. You can ask for Martha, Miriam, or Lorraine.

Many of our senior friends and family may not think they are in need of such a service. When you are down, you don’t recognize it or seek help, so make the call and encourage someone to participate.
