Raise your glass at Uncorked, Rockville’s Wine and Music Festival, on Saturday, August 29, 2009 from noon to 6 PM in Rockville Town Square. If you want to taste the finest wines from Maryland, the cost is only $10. The first 2,000 admissions will also receive a commemorative wine glass. If you want to come out and listen to the music and see the demonstrations, you don’t have to pay a dime.
The participating wineries set up in tents, pour samples and discuss their wines. This year expect Basignani Winery near Hunt Valley; Black Ankle Vineyards in Mt. Airy; Boordy Vineyards in the Long Green Valley of Baltimore County; Bordeleau Vineyards in Eden, MD, on the Easter Shore; Elk Run Vineyards in Frederick County; Fiore Winery in Hartford County; Frederick Cellars, which operates Mountain Creek Vineyards in Frederick County; Solomon’s Island Winery; Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard in Frederick County; and Terrapin Station Winery in Cecil County. Gilly’s Craft Beer and Fine Wine in Rockville will also be on hand.

Yes, we are looking at a person in this pic.
Do not miss Divine who will be somewhere around Town Square from noon to 6 PM. My family saw her (or someone who looks exactly like her) at Disney World last year. She surprises everyone who notices her beauty. I will stay at Uncorked until I find her. Here’s a description from the City’s website:
“Entwined around a tree or sprawled along a wall, DiVine is at first incognito. Reaching a height from 9 feet to 16 feet tall, the beautiful living vine-woman slowly animates, moving in and out of stunning tableaus. She gracefully leaps her way to the next location leaving her audience fascinated as once more she melds into her surroundings. DiVine will perform four, 30-minute encounters from 2-2:30 p.m., 3-3:30 p.m., 4-4:30 p.m., and 5-5:30 p.m.”

Johnna Gilchrist from Gilly’s Craft Beer & Fine Wine will discuss the proper techniques for tasting wine. I wonder if they the same for tasting beer, maybe I’ll ask.
Wine Seminar: Winemaking 4:30 – 5 PM
Carl DiManno, winemaker at Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyards will discuss winemaking. Carl attended the University of California at Davis where he obtained a Masters in Oenology.
As I wrote, last year it poured at Uncorked, not just the wine but the rain too. But honestly, people didn’t seem to mind. They just kept having fun tasting the wines and listening to the bands. Everybody was jolly and this is definitely one of the most enjoyable Rockville experiences.
