This grim image is by Carl Henn. Of it, he says: “A pedestrian paddle, in a crosswalk on a double yellow line, smacked down. Just evidence that the dangerous driving that killed Codi is too common.”
Note: Carl Henn is a candidate for City Council. Rockville Central does not endorse candidates.

it could be, but it also could indicate that it is very tough to drive where these signs are and that a driver simply ran into one or that the signs are flimsy. it’s not been determined that the driver was at fault in the alexander case. in any event, people do drive much too fast, and a reminder to slow down is always a good one. as they used to say on hill street blues: “let’s be careful out there.”
If it’s someplace where people turn left onto the road that would have gone to the right of this sign, odds are that it’s smack-dab in the “blind spot” between windshields and driver-side windows. I know, b/c even though I KNEW it was there, I’ve bumped the one on S. Stonestreet at Baltimore turning left from Baltimore, and I’m not even CLOSE to the only one! (That sign hasn’t been there for a while now, but it looked a lot like the one pictured above for quite a while.)
I agree, far too often whether it is pedestrian related or a hard corner that was designed poorly the answer is to put up one of these signs instead of redesigning the intersection. There are examples of these signs all over Rockville that go up on a sidewalk that has too sharp of a turn and are damaged the next day, far too often by busses or larger vehicles taking these turns and it being close to impossible for them to do it without running up on the sidewalk/median.
