Cake Dreams Opens Today

Rockville Central contributor, Jonathan Smith, contacted the owners of our newest Rockville establishment, the enticing Cake Dreams, for a sneak preview. Rush on over for a cupcake to welcome them to the neighborhood!
2010 is shaping up as a hot year for the food business in Rockville. Buffalo Wild Wings is here for the end of football season, and I’m sure will be a destination during March madness. I’ve already eaten four times at PitaHut, the great new falafel and shwarma joint where Chopstix used to be. And just today I tried our latest delicious newcomer, CakeDreams. The chocolate cupcake is just incredible. More on that in a moment.

Michelle and Kevin are Rockville people. Kevin’s been here all his life, and Michelle a majority of hers (originally from NY). They have one daughter at Rockville High School, and another at Montgomery College. Michelle was an art student and is a graduate of L’Academie de Cuisine’s Pastry Arts program and has enjoyed some critical acclaim. A recent wedding cake she created for a Naval Academy wedding is about to be featured on the cover of The Knot!
Back to that chocolate cupcake. My wife was thrilled with me when I brought one home to her. It was rich and moist and fudgy. Made from scratch with really good chocolate. And it was FRESH. We found it to be way way better than what you get at the grocery store, or other small bakeries for that matter.

Congratulations! I’ve been waiting since the closing of Wenger’s Bakery in Twinbrook, for the return of a real bake shop. May you survive and prosper.
Silly me – I forgot to ask for a Rockville Central coupon! I think I’ll run out and see how things have gone so far today.
I’ll have to check them out. I’ve been looking for a good independent bakery.
I’ve strolled passed the place countless times over the past several weeks, as its on my usual route into town. That, and I have my shirts cleaned next door.I’m glad to see it’s opened and people are excited about it. And the cupcakes did look quite good!Of course the “tough economic times” preclude me from paying 2.85 for a single cupcake (times 3, since it would probably involve my entire family). At least that’s what it looked like they cost? I don’t think others locally will find the cost an issue at all though. Now if they could make a good apple fritter….
Did somebody say coupon! I can definately get behind a chocolate buy one get one cupcake!
Beware. I had a “Cake Nightmare” rather than a “Cake Dream.” I ordered a 3-tier cake (two yellow and one chocolate) for my daughter’s birthday. The chocolate tasted fine and the design was good. The two yellow tiers, however, did NOT taste good. It appeared to be raw/undercooked; it was dry and very hard. I brought the cake back to the owner/baker, Michele, and she refused to offer me a fair compensation for the undercooked cake. She gave me several theories as to why she thought the cake was good; she also mentioned that I got a good deal. She said she’s standing by the quality of her cake. Thank God I took a picture of the cake so you can see for YOURSELF the type of quality she’s standing behind. I highly recommend that you look elsewhere for a cake. Not only did the cake taste bad, but the customer service was the worst I have ever received. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere. I wish I did.p.s. The other reviewers mentioned that her cupcakes are good, which is true. That’s what caught me. Michele mentioned that the cupcakes and cakes are similiar, but my cake was VERY different than the cupcakes.
Yikes. Sounds like Tessa had one bad experience. My wife was about to order my birthday cake from there but Tessa’s note gave her pause… I guess I’ll just have to wait until next week to find out what she decides!
There is a wonderful bakery on Gude that has provided me with some delicious cakes. The name is Le Delicies I think. It’s in the last retail strip before Rt. 28. If you are into merangues, they had hearts for Valentines day but my favorite are the mice with almond ears.
We welcome the opportunity for any Rockville resident to come sample our cakes (not cupcakes) before placing an order. You may also peruse the many cards and e-mails from satisfied CAKE clients over the six years we have been providing wedding and party cakes in the DC area. Food is a subjective thing and we understand not everyone will fall in love with our product. We also understand the importance of friendly, helpful customer service and are confident we provide nothing less on a daily basis.
Cupcake Dreams is a dream come true…wouldn’t be surprised to see lines out the door once this place gets established. ROCK ON!!! Amazing flavors, moist, pretty…has it all.
Well, the wife ended up at Les Delices mostly because they were open at the time she was shopping. Great cake.Nevertheless, I LOVE the chocolate cupcakes at Cake Dreams.
