Reminder: Wootton Parkway Closed 7-15-10
The pedestrian bridge over Wootton Parkway between Lindley Terrace and Keynes Lane will be removed on Thursday, July 15, beginning at 9 PM and continuing for approximately three hours. Portions of Wootton Parkway will be closed in both directions during the deconstruction. A detour will be in place. Wootton Parkway will be open to local traffic at Keynes Lane and Lindley Terrace. Message boards will alert motorists to the changes.The multi-use path along Wootton Parkway in the area of the bridge will also be closed with detours. A large crane will place the bridge on the south side of Wootton Parkway which will block the multi-use path. The path will remain closed until the bridge can be removed on Saturday, July 17. The work is expected to last until the evening on Saturday and you can expect one-lane closures and delays on Wootton Parkway all day.>Maps of the various detours can be found on the City’s website.
The bridge was closed February 3, 2010 following an inspection that revealed issues with the bridge’s structural integrity. Since then, pedestrian detour signs were put in place. The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a contract with Fort Myer Construction Corporation on June 21st to design and build a new bridge. The new bridge to connect Glenmore Terrace and Lakewood Elementary School is being built at a plant in Minnesota during the next seven to nine weeks. After the bridge is delivered, the installation will take up to five days.
