Rockville Twilight Runfest Next Saturday 7-17-2010; Benefits Rockville Recreation Fund
Just one week after tomorrow, July 17, one of my favorite annual Rockville traditions will take place: the Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest. This is an 8 kilometer race that starts late in the day, as the sun is beginning to set, and winds throughout Rockville neighborhood streets. The path goes right by my house, fairly late in the course so the pack is spread out quite a bit.
It is fun to watch people just keep going by, one after the other. This year I am considering putting out a sprinkler for people to grab a quick cool-down if they wish.
I’m a runner myself, but have never run in this race (I don’t really compete much in races, except for the Marine Corps Marathon which I do as a fundraiser for autism research). This year, though, I am considering running because . . . well, I don’t know why, I just feel like it! There’s a chance I will be out of town, though, so we will have to see.
In any event, registration is still open and you can sign up before the 14th for $25 here. If you miss that deadline, you can still sign up race day for a little more. Just check out the registration page link.
The Runfest benefits the Rockville Recreation Fund, which makes funds available for resident children who might not otherwise be able to take part in City programs. It’s one of the great things about Our Fair City.

FYI, the rate is actually $30 now, $25 was the rate for mid June. On the plus side, there’s no additional fee for paying online. I’ve run this race many times over the last 7 years and it’s always a blast.
