Rockville Central readers know that Ruth Hanessian’s Animal Exchange is the crossroads of Rockville.

This incredible establishment is marking its 31st anniversary this weekend with a celebration that will include a book signing and awarding of photo prizes.

It all happens Saturday, August 28 from 11am until 2pm

Here’s the scoop from Ruth herself:

We are 31!

Animal Exchange opened August 5, 1979.  You are invited to celebrate with your pets and ours from 11AM – 2PM on Saturday August 28th.  If you entered our photo contest, prizes will be awarded at 1PM.  The winners (congratulations) are on display at the store ’till then.  The author of “Jenny’s Own Puppy” will be here and will be signing copies of her delightful new children’s book available at Animal Exchange.  We enjoy her gentle guidance for choosing an appropriate breed of dog.

UPDATE: Ruth has announced that Dr. Karen Shanor, author of Bats Sing, Mice Giggle: The Surprising Science of Animals’ Inner Lives, will be on hand to sign her books too!

Here’s to Ruth and her critters. We love you all.Happy anniversary!

Will celebrate here in Santa Fe on the 28th with sangria and green chile on something.

By the way, I read Rockville Central every day with my other emails in this golden State.

Thanks to all of you who came by or sent good wishes on our 31st. The photo contest winners are still up. It was so cute to see the two bunny winners meet and play with each other. Both of our guest authors were totally impressed with our wonderful customers. We have copies of the puppy book for sale and the Bats and Mice book will be available at Barnes and Noble on Sept 1. You can look at my preview copy at Animal Exchange if you wish.
Brad and Cindy, you sure do a good job keeping Rockvillians informed even as they travel far from home. Where is the farthest you’ve heard from?
