Blues Journey at Parilla Performing Arts Center Come, listen to the Bluesman! He’s only got an hour, so you’d better hurry! His old fingers are beginning to fail him, but he’s still got a song in his heart and lots of stories to tell. Don’t miss the one about the first blues man, The Great One, who met a certain Man in White at a crossroads, or about a young fella who loved blues so much he married it and had a baby named rock and roll. Some stories are true to life, others are likely tall tales, but every last one is rooted in the music that the Bluesman, has been playing his whole life. Take a journey as the Bluesman traces the blues from the early beginnings in southern American fields to its global impact on music today. Rockville Chorus Holiday Concert
Sunday, December 21, 2008 at 7:30 PM
Followed by a cookie reception! Free, no tickets required.
From Chorus member Daryl Newhouse on Facebook: “For this concert, Rockville Chorus Director, Bryan Seith, has chosen a variety of holiday and classical selections that will appeal to all ages and musical tastes. Highlights of this performance will be selections from Vivaldi’s sacred work MAGNIFICAT. This well- known choral masterpiece, composed by Antonio Vivaldi, details the accounts of Mary’s song of praise as written in the Gospel of Luke. Salamone Rossi’s HALELUYA. HALELI NAFSHI is another offering for this holiday concert. THE SHEPHERDS’ CHORUS from AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS by Gain Carlo Menotti as well as Charles Ives’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL are some of the other more traditional pieces to be performed. On a lighter note, humorous pieces which put a different spin on traditional carols by the infamous P.D.Q. Bach including THROW THE YULE LOG ON, UNCLE JOHN, O LITTLE TOWN OF HACKENSACK and GOOD KING KONG LOOKED OUT, will surely amuse the audience.” There’s only ONE Hackensack, right? There could only be one. It sounds hilarious!

Our favorite Rockville
band is releasing their new CD! It’s finally time for The West End CD Release Party at Austin Grill Rockville! They’ve spent all those hot summer nights performing their music to perfection and now we all get our chance to buy, This Ride Could Be My Last. Produced and engineered by Steve Carr at Hit and Run Recording in Rockville, Maryland, the CD is a professional effort that I guarantee you will be listening to for a long time to come because it’s foot pounding not tapping original rock music with a bit of the blues. Best of all, you get to hear The West End live. Since Austin Grill has pulled back the live music, you just can’t miss this show – an opportunity to let them know how much we love The West End and want a live music venue in Rockville Town Center! Rockville Lion’s 18th Annual Modular Train Show
Saturday, November 8, 2008 10 AM – 4 PM
Sunday, November 9, 2008 12 PM – 4 PM
Rockville Senior Center
Growing up with my brother, George, meant riding and appreciating trains of all sizes. His fondness for engines took our family on many journeys. If you are ever passing by Roadside America on Interstate 78 in Shartlesville, Pennsylvania stop by for a miniature glimpse of our small town past and enjoy a hearty PA Dutch-style family meal at the nearby Haag’s Hotel .
The Lion’s Train Show never fails to bring back some happy childhood recollections. The local Model Railroad Associations show big displays of Z, N, and HO scales with pride. From Lionel to Lego, they share their enthusiasm. All donations go to charity. $5/adult, $3/child is suggested with a maximum of $10 per family. Start your own fond memories.
