The Razors at Dad’s Neighborhood Pub
Friday, July 31, 2009 9:00 PM
I discovered this new location for live music entertainment on Rockville Living. We have a new venue for bands and they are booking quite a few regularly throughout the week. The Razors are a rock, country & blues cover band. The Pub has no cover charge and a cute name, plus on Fridays the margaritas are $1.95 until midnight.

Hello Dolly! at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre
by Rockville Musical Theater
Fridays, July 17 & 24 at 8 PM
Saturdays, July 18 & 25 8 PM
Sundays, July 19 & 26 at 2 PM
Tickets: $20/adult, $16/senior +62, $16/students 18 & under
These Victorian women are looking for love (if you know what I mean.) The musical already delighted audiences last weekend and the wonderful cast will have you leaving the Theatre humming familiar songs.
Fitzgerald Box Office Manager, Kathy Cohen, reminded me that Barbra Streisand played Dolly Levi in the 1969 movie. Also, Jerry Herman, who wrote the music and lyrics, recently received the Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement. There’s no time like the present to enjoy this musical.
Rockville Express Baseball Fundraiser
Also this Saturday, July 18th starting at 7 PM till closing, the Rockville Express Collegiate Baseball Team is having a fundraiser at JJ Muldoons. $5 cover for live music and you’ll get to meet some players. 10% of what you spend will go to the team but you need to present this flyer.

The Digits at Woodley Garden Swim Club
850 Nelson Street
Saturday, July 11, 2009
7:30 to 10:30 PM
Summer is time for the pool and outdoor music, so this weekend combine the two for a cause. The Digits are playing Woodley Gardens Swim Club with all proceeds to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. This 4th Annual Event and Silent Auction is open to all for a $5 donation/person. Relax by the pool with what’s certain to be a large crowd. Hard Times Cafe and Carmen’s Italian Ice will be selling with 20% of the proceeds for WWP.
The Digits began playing together at the pool, which has donated the space for this concert. They always offer the microphone to anyone who wants to sing along. The band rocks from the Beatles to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
The Wounded Warrior Project brings peer support groups together. Their Project Odyssey provides outdoor recreational program to help veterans handle combat stress. WWP also advocates for changes in benefits and veteran policy.
When it’s time to move inside, The West End with Rockville Central’s very own Brad Rourke on guitar and vocals, are rocking Potomac Grill until LATE.

During Hometown Holidays, the kids went up against Rockville’s own professional soccer players. In our case, the professionals were definitely outnumbered! I promised the team players we would see a game. Our house is a couple of blocks away and we usually hear them. This Sunday you can also learn to Flamenco dance. Real Maryland always promises a special occasion and much more than a soccer game.

Events In Rockville For Hometown Holidays 5/21/09
>Pick of the Week Is – Of Course – Hometown Holidays
All I keep wondering is how I can be in three places at the exact same time. Have you clicked on the links for Saturday and Sunday? Unbelievable.
On Monday the parade starts at 10:30 AM.
Do not miss Hometown Holidays. Music for everyone: Jazz, Jamaican, Irish rock, country, punk, ska, alternative, blues, swing, rockabilly, reggae, pop, fusion, acoustic, flute, a cappella, and swing. Whew!
We all know the big headliners, but some Rockville performers, old favorites, and new acts are my Picks for the weekend:
Saturday, May 23, 2009
Rockville Native Keegan Corbey has come back to the Accoustic Stage at
1 – 1:30 PM and 3 – 3:30 PM with guitarist Dave Speake. I wrote about him at Cinco de Mayo. Born at Holy Cross Hospital, he bought first guitar at age 13 after listening to garage bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Sound Garden. After Good Counsel High School he headed to Middle Tennessee State University and now he’s living back in Rockville. Pay attention to his lyrics because they’re often ours. He can’t stop making music and you won’t be able to stop listening.
Stuck In The Mud on the Red Brick Stage 1 -2 PM. Three Richard Montgomery High School students are in this band doing some punk-ska-alternative stuff. I don’t want to miss hearing this local high school band.
Leaving, TX on the Red Brick Stage 3 – 4 PM. We interviewed Chris Patterson on Rockville Central Radio and learned the origins of the band’s name and “twang rock”, rock with country filled with smart lyrics that will not keep you still. I go to their shows and listen to their CDs, so you know this is one of my stops.
Blaggards on the Plaza Stage 3:30 – 5 PM Stout Irish Rock from Houston of all places. More Irish than rock, but when they do rock, it’s … different. I’m curious.
Spiny Johnson on the Maryland Stage 4 – 5 PM He’s performed at my son’s elementary school and if you haven’t taken the kids to the Harlem Globetrotters, this is their chance to see some fancy basketball moves and maybe even have a chance to try. Positive health, no drugs, believe in yourself message from a man you’ll want to call friend.
Sunday, May 24, 2009
Rockville’s a capella groups the Supertonics and Chaos on the Montgomery Stage 3- 4:30 PM from Wootton High School. These are all local kids and they create an amazing sound with their voices. I recommend them if you want to be happy and delighted while smiling.
Test your soccer skills with players from Real Maryland FC, our very own Rockville-based USL Second Division soccer team from 1-8 PM on Saturday and Sunday. The team wants to know you! Welcome them to Rockville!

Concert In The Square Series Begins Tonight!
Thursday, May 7, 2009
6 – 8 PM
Cletus Kennelly and Lori Kelley
I just checked the weather and there’s only a 25% chance of ra
in during the concert. We’ve all been stuck inside, so going out to hear some quality music without raindrops tonight would be just excellent. Cletus and Lori are award-winning songwriters who sing to your heart with a very entertaining show. From Lori’s website: “The D.C-area songwriters blend contemporary urban folk with elements of melodic pop and alternative rock. Lori sometimes adds a dash of country to the mix.”

All Town Square All Weekend!
Saturday, May 2, 2009 Cinco de Mayo 12 PM – 2 PM
Sunday, May 3, 2009 Shelter Walk ‘n Roll 1 PM – 3 PM
Cinco de Mayo
Led by Austin Grill’s overwhelming desire to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Saturday’s going to be “excepcional” in Town Square. Maryland Avenue will be closed and filled with food
and goodies from the Town Square merchants: Austin Grill, Bobby’s Crabcakes, Fractured Prune, Gordon Biersch, La Tasca Spanish Tapas Bar, Lebanese Taverna, Oro Pomodoro, Primo Italiano, Robeks Fruit Smoothies and Healthy Eats, Sushi Damo, Taste of Saigon, Pomegranate & Co., Ten Thousand Villages, and The Papery. Great Cinco de Mayo day discounts too! Austin Grill told me this was going to be even bigger and better than last year!
Live music ALL day long:
12:00 PM – Rueda USA, Latin Dance Program
12:30 PM – Gold’s Gym Zumba Demonstration
1:00 – 3:00 PM - Stokley Rose
From their website: “A high-energy original rock band with roots from bands like Metallica and Alice in Chains to Dave Matthew’s Band and the Black Crowes. We keep our fans guessing with an array of riff driven power mixed with a funky and melodic feel. This energy and feeling is translated into our live shows. We’ve blown the roof off of places like The Velvet Lounge and Jammin Java.”
3:45 – 4:45 PM – Keegan Corbey
From his MySpace: “Born and raised in Rockville MD I started playing music when I bought my first guitar at the age of 13 after listening to garage bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, and Green Day. I kept playing all the way through my four years at Good Counsel High School in Wheaton MD, and then spent a year studying in Nashville, TN at Middle Tennessee State University. Since then I have been living back in Rockville MD playing open mics and gigs at bars and coffee shops through out the DC area.”
4:45 – 5:45 PM Mariachi Band
6:00 – 9:00 PM The Reagan Years
From their website:”T
he East Coast’s premier 80’s tribute. This rock band of seasoned musicians recreates the sounds of the 1980s; a day when Ronald Reagan was President, M-TV first aired, CDs emerged, Acid Washed jeans were “Cool” and alternative music was called “New Wave”.” And “TRY’s stage show creates a party atmosphere filled with fun college and high school memories. Throughout a performance, the quintet changes lead vocalists and plays special requests from the Reagan era. Musical selections although diverse in style, all share the “common thread” of success during the 80′s decade. The Reagan Years: no Voodoo Economics, just great music!”
Picture of the Reagan Years by FaithDesired.
9:30 PM – 12:30 AM Eddie Stone inside Austin Grill
From their MySpace: “It’s a little hard to pick a sound so we got some songs that sound like these bands… The Who, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Pearl Jam, Rancid, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin… it’s just good ol’ ROCK ‘N’ ROLL!”
But it’s not just a hot music scene, you can keep the kids busy while you listen and enjoy some cold beverages:
Moonbounce 12-8 PM They ought to be tired!
Balloon Animals 12-6 PM
Crafts 12-4 PM by VisArts
Rocket Balloons at Toy Kingdom
Coloring for Kids at Gifford’s Ice Cream
