I’m constantly driving up and down North Washington Street and have never tried Bob’s Noodle 66. Thanks to Dskco for reviewing this very local restaurant on her Lunching in the DMV blog.
My cousin has been craving “Stinky Tofu” so a bunch of us went to Bob’s Noodle 66 in Rockville. It’s a very popular Taiwanese style restaurant. You won’t find General Tso’s chicken on this menu. Located in downtown Rockville behind Orange Ball Billiads, there is plenty of free parking. The closest metro stop is Rockville on the red line.
Sounds like this is an exotic restaurant with just about ANYTHING on the menu! Thanks to Dskco’s usual photography, everything looks delicious. Payment and language make Bob’s Noodle 66 a unique little find.

Lunching in the DMV: Rolls 'n Rice

I go to LA Boxing at least three times a week and never noticed the new restaurant Rolls ‘n Rice in the same strip mall. This is exactly why I need Dskco to point me in the right restaurant direction with her Lunching in the DMV blog and her most recent review of Rolls ‘n Rice.
My coworker recommended that I try this new sushi place in Rockville called Rolls ‘n Rice. It’s been open for around 2-3 months. It’s located in the old Lemon Tree space, which is in the Congressional Village shopping center. There are 2 entrances, but the one in the back has all of the free parking. The closest metro station would be Twinbrook on the red line.
Dskco’s plentiful photos give you a real feel for the place. Looks like a very full and fresh dish for around $12, a pretty good deal.

In the mood to try some Japanese food and possibly a catch a Japanese gameshow? Read Dskco’s review of local restaurant Temari.
Ever since trying ramen for the 1st time in NYC, I’ve been on a search. Recommended by friends, the bf and I went to Temari. Located in a green shopping center across the street from Best Buy, I’ve past this restaurant countless times, and didn’t ever notice it. There is plenty of parking in the shopping center, and the closest metro would be either be Twinbrook or Rockville on the red line. It’s pretty much right in the middle of the two.
She also walked around back to a Japanese market called Maruichi. I’ve never noticed the restaurant or the market so I’m glad Dskco visited both. Yet again, we’re very lucky to have the world at our fingertips here in Rockville.

Contributor Review by Tracy Pakulniewicz-Chidiac: Twinbrook's Little Secret – Seska Lounge

Every 5 – 6 weeks, my girlfriends and I have a “Ladies Night Out” where we make it a point to discover new restaurants in the area while we chat and catch up on “life”. After frequenting many of the Town Center establishments, we were in search of “less-chain” and more “mom and pop” type venues. Our latest event lead to the discovery of Twinbrook’s Little Secret: Seska Lounge - a contemporary woman-owned restaurant serving Caribbean and French inspired fare.
Located just behind the Twinbrook Post Office on Viers Mill, Seska Lounge is identifiable by the big, red, illuminated sign on the first floor level – with the entrance located on the ground level. Upon entering, you get the sense you’ve left Rockville and are in the middle of New York City. The modest size space is adorned in black, white and red with sleek wood tables, red bamboo and a white tile bar.
The food is sumptuous! Everything is made fresh and you can taste the passion that was put into preparing every bite! Ranging from curry from the West Indies to Asian inspired appetizers, there is something to please everyone. And vegetarians, no worries, if you don’t see it on the menu, a specialty dish will be crafted just for you! My personal favorite: dessert of course! Piping hot bread pudding – made with croissants and rum-soaked raisins, served with a side of creamy vanilla ice cream.
While the food and atmosphere are amazing, the best part of the Seska Lounge is the owner: Francesca. She is warm, friendly and treats you like family. She hails form Ghana, her mother’s birth place, and picked up the Caribbean influence from her father’s Jamaican roots.
Throughout our evening at Seska Lounge, we were able to take our time eating, enjoy the atmosphere and New Age tunes playing in the background. And, each course was followed up by a visit from Francesca to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and the food.
It was a perfect Ladies Night Out. I suspect this will be one place we’ll return to – and I hope many of you will give it a try as well! This is one “secret” that everyone should know!

Dskco found a restaurant with live belly dancing, >MemSahib which is behind White Flint Mall. I’ve been down to Marrakesh in DC which was quite a show. This restaurant is just as much fun, but much closer to home.
Dskco’s review on MemSahi begins:
Hi Everyone! Recently the bf was craving Indian food, so a friend recommended MemSahib in Rockville. Mind you, I did no research, nor have I heard of this place prior to going, so it was an interesting experience.
I’m glad Dskco goes and researches these restaurants for us. You need to know when dinner is going to take such a long time!

Best Rockville Restaurants, According To Urban Spoon
>Rockville Central friend Jonathan Smith sent me a note listing the top ten restaurants in Rockville according to the dining website Urban Spoon. Here’s what he says:
I don’t agree with it, but here is Urban Spoon’s current top ten list for Rockville restaurants (based on website votes). I think you need a certain minimum vote count to make the list.
Best in Rockville
There are a number of my faves that aren’t on the list, for instance Apollo Diner. What are your favorites that aren’t there?

Dskco and her boyfriend visited Pancake House. On her blog, Lunching in the DMV, she explains why it’s her choice for breakfast and shows plenty of photos to give you a good look at the restaurant.
Hi everyone! Sometimes its nice to sleep in and then head out to get some breakfast. The bf and I decided to get some pancakes and eggs at The Original Pancake House. It happens to be my favorite breakfast joint. It’s located on Rockville Pike near the Randolph Rd intersection. The parking in kind of limited, however the parking lot next to it with the Houston’s has plenty, even though you’re not REALLY supposed to park there.
I’ve never eaten at Pancake House but the place always looks full. Apparently you leave feeling the same way!

Dskco and her boyfriend visited La Tasca in Rockville Town Square, and here’s how she begins her review of the restaurant on her blog, Lunching in the DMV:
Hi everyone, another Iphone post! For my bf’s birthday he wanted to try Paella since he’s seen and heard so much about it on the Travel Channel and Food Network. We decided to go to La Tasca in Rockville to try it out because of their paella and sangria selections.
As Dskco mentions, the price can add up and it’s good but …

Lunching in the DMV: Big Saigon
>

Dskco has visited one of those restaurants I always drive past and have never tried. I was surprised by the very nice dining room she describes.
Here’s a bit from her review:
Hey Everyone! This will be one of 3 posts that have been shot by my Iphone due to my doggie destroying my camera. My new camera came in the mail this week, so I can’t wait to test it out!
The other week the bf and my younger cousin were craving Vietnamese food and decided to try out a new place called Big Saigon. It’s located on Rockville Pike across the street from Wintergreen Plaza . The closest metro stop is Rockville on the Red line, and there are some free parking spaces around the restaurant.
Click here for the complete review. After reading, I think I’ll give it a try. I love iced coffee.
Greystone Grill In Town Square Closes
Following up from a tip from one of our >Twitter friends, I took a peek and found that, indeed, the Greystone Grill in Town Square appears to have closed. In fact, it is evidently closed forever:
It’s always sad to see businesses not succeed. But there are still lots of good restaurants in Town Square and this opens the door to something new!
What’s Old In the New: Apollo Restaurant Review
Department: News
Tags: by Cindy Cotte Griffiths, restaurants, reviews
>Back where I grew up in New Jersey, diners rule. All the locals would meet up in the booths and my family was always one of them. There’s only one place in Rockville to compare and that’s the Apollo Restaurant.
The Apollo, tucked away in a shopping center on North Washington Street, doesn’t receive the same publicity as the newer Town Center restaurants. This is old Rockville. The people who eat here have been doing so for years and when you walk in, everyone’s head raises to see who’s arrived.
When I go to the Apollo, I splurge. This is good, old-fashioned diner food. The Burger Melt Platter with fried onions and cheese soaks the rye bread. I prefer the thin fries but they offer a steak fry option too. When I had the Hot Open Roast Beef sandwich with all the white bread, mashed potatoes, and gravy, I was 10 years old again sitting with my family. Greek dishes and salads offer lower-calorie, hearty options. The gyros and the Spaniko pita (spinach pie) are both layered with flavor.
Any place that serves breakfast all day has always rated high on my scale. The cheese omelets, standard eggs, grits, and home fries are all just as you would expect, but the pancakes are heavenly. The pancakes melt in your mouth like butter and there’s probably a very good reason for that.
Behind the accordion dividers, a full bar serves up the drinks, which reminds me of a VFW or Moose Lodge. You pay your bill at the little window between the bar and the restaurant and the kids are offered a lollipop.
If you like the diner experience, you need go no farther than the Apollo to find traditional, American fare.
The Apollo is located at 12 N Washington St, Rockville, MD 20850 (301) 294-3540
Lunching in the DMV: Niwano Hana
>Hungry for sushi? If not, you will be after reading Dskco’s review of Niwano Hana on Lunching In the DMV. She recommends the Special Rolls and the host, who can sometimes be seen wearing purple suits!
Hi everyone! I wanted sushi recently so the bf was nice enough to satisfy my craving by taking me to Niwano Hana. It’s my ‘go-to’ sushi place if I want something a little more special in terms of rolls. It is located on Rockville Pike in Wintergreen Plaza with the closest metro stop being Rockville on the Red Line. There is plenty of free parking in the shopping center, but it can get crowded.
We’re pleased to be able to link to Dskco’s restaurant reviews and hope you enjoy reading them as much as we do.
Hollywood Diner: Fun!
Yesterday, the infamous >Rockville Roundtable met for our monthly itinerant lunch, this time at the Hollywood Diner on Rockville Pike.
We had a great time, enjoyed fabulous conversation, and generally had a great time. Watch this space for information on the next Rockville Roundtable.
Here is our take on the afternoon:
The Roundtable is just an informal lunch, each time on a different day and at a different place. Anyone is welcome, there are no speeches or anything fancy, and it is usually a blast. Our numbers have been growing slowly but surely.
See you at the next one!
Lunching in the DMV Review: Addie’s

>As promised, I’m letting you know about Dskco’s review of Addie’s Restaurant, which she posted on Lunching In the DMV.
Here’s how she begins:
The bf and I recently went to Addie’s since it’s been raining a lot and eating is the best way to spend a rainy day in my opinion. It’s an American restaurant in a converted home in Rockville. There’s free parking in the back and the closest Metro stop is Grosvenor-Strathmore on the red line.
In a nutshell, she likes this small place with a small menu.
