Lunching In The DMV: Seven Seas Chinese Restaurant
Dskco — now going by ‘Marie’ — dined at Seven Seas Chinese Restaurant the other day and filed a positive report in her blog Lunching In The DMV:
Food came out fast! The menu is big and offers Chinese and Japanese food. We opted for only Chinese food and ordered ‘Shrimp Lo Mein’ for $8.95. It was a good amount of noodles. It wasn’t overly salty, drenched in soy sauce or oily. I thought it was great! I’d definitely order it again. . . .
I enjoyed the food a lot. It tasted like good ingredients were used. The service was fast but for some reason we had 3 different servers

Lunching In The DMV: Spice Xing
Dskco dined at Spice Xing and everything was good. This is so true. I’ve found every bite to be absolutely delicious. Here’s the beginning of her review on Lunching In The DMV:
Friday was date night with the bf, and before watching The Karate Kid (good flick BTW) we had Indian food at Spice Xing. The restaurant was on Washingtonian’s Top 100 Cheap Eats list, so I wanted to try it. We haven’t had Indian food in a while anyway. I kept pronouncing it like “Spice Sing” but the bf corrected me, and it’s “Spice Crossing” haha.
I have to agree about the Karate Kid movie, which I enjoyed. Dskco thinks the nan was the best she’s ever had. Read her full review. She captures the earthy elegance of the restaurant with all her pictures.

Lunching In The DMV: Lighthouse Tofu
Last week Dskco hit the Korean Restaurant on Twinbrook Parkway, Lighthouse Tofu, and found a short but surprisingly different and tasty menu.
Her review on Lunching in the DMV starts:
Last night I met up with two friends for some Korean food. I suggested eating at Lighthouse Tofu because one of my awesome readers (Sup Mark!) reminded me this place existed. I used to work right around there and always thought they only served Soon Dubu Jigae (Spicy Tofu Stew), so I never went. They restaurant has their own private lot with the closest metro being Twinbrook on the red line.
The stew was so hot she took a video of it bubbling. They serve rice with tea which you eat/drink after the rice softens and Dskco says the combination is “addicting”. She recommends the the Kim Chi Pancake and enjoyed the traditional outfits (han bok) on the servers.

Lunching In The DMV: Pho 95
I must admit, I’m not up on the Pho restaurants around Rockville. Dskco tried out Pho 95 though she and her family are regulars at Pho 75 which she reviewed previously.
Seems like Evil Ben convinced her to try a new place:
Last night my friend Evil Ben was craving pho, so we hit up his favorite place, Pho 95 in Ritchie Center. That shopping center has India Grill and Jumbo Jumbo Bubble Express too. So there is a lot of free parking, and the closest metro stop is Rockville on the Red Line.
Pho 95 uses a clean tasting broth. Evil Ben thinks a subtle broth allows the noodles, meats and herbs to shine. This would explain why it’s his favorite place.
Dskco deemed the Vietnamese Iced Coffee “perfect” which is good to know as we head into the hot months. I love them!

Lunching In The DMV: Jumbo Jumbo Bubble Express

Always into bubble tea, Dskco can’t get enough, which is good for us. She checked out another place, Jumbo Jumbo Bubble Express, for her blog Lunching in the DMV:
My favorite bubble tea place (Bubble Tea Café) is closed on Mondays, so Evil Ben and I went to try Jumbo Jumbo Bubble Express in Ritchie Center. There is a lot of parking and it is in the same shopping center as India Grill.
Quite frankly, I never even noticed Jumbo Jumbo. There ARE quality places behind the IHOP such as India Grill and El Mariachi. As for the Bubble Express, they do cook the bubbles to the right consistency and it’s a good hang out spot.

Lunching In The DMV: Tokyo Express

Dskco has reviewed an old favorite, Tokoyo Express. Although the restaurant serves Chinese and Japanese, this in only a review of Tokoyo Express.
She says it’s cheap sushi:
Whenever I want cheap sushi that’s close to home, I go to China Taste/Tokyo Express. I’ve been going to this place for about 10 years now. Granted I haven’t been in a while because I’ve been trying new places for the blog, but I had to come back at some point. My mom found this hole in the wall, yey. They have a tiny parking lot that I’ve never seen full. The closest metro is Twinbrook on the red line.
The restaurant seems like a quite a deal. Dskco thinks it’s good for a quick bite but maybe not a big bite.

Lunching In The DMV: El Patio

Dskco found El Patio by chance, as she explains at the start of her review:
The other night the bf suggested we just drive up the road and try some random restaurant. I usually like to research a place, read reviews, etc before eating somewhere. He is the spontaneous one in the relationship, and I admire that about him. We ended up trying an Argentinean Cafe called El Patio on Twinbrook Prwy. I’ve seen this tiny place before, but never thought about stopping by. The parking lot is tiny. The closest metro stop is Twinbrook on the red line.
She thinks the restaurant is like being in a different country. Besides the dining option you’ll also find a bakery and small grocery with packaged goods from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. The food was good and the regulars seemed to be content.
If you’ve ever wondered about Greenberry in Mid-Pike Plaza, she also visited it the same day and her review is here.

Lunching In The DMV: Giuseppi's

Dskco visited a Rockville stronghold, the meeting place for local candidates and a stalwart of the community, so I was curious to read her review of Guiseppi’s. This is where my family gets our pizza on Friday nights. It’s the place to meet for lunch. As a newcomer, what did she think?
Dinner and a movie is such a relaxing way to start off a weekend. The bf and I went to see Alice in Wonderland 3D at Regal in Rockville Town Square, and had dinner at this pizza place called Giuseppi’s a few doors down. We wanted something fast and affordable. There is free parking a few blocks away and garage parking. The closest metro stop is Rockville on the red line.
She agreed this family-run and affordable Italian place will leave you with “no complaints”, especially their ‘Dinner and a Movie’ package: “for each $5 purchase, get a movie ticket for $6.50″.
Last year friends wanted dinner and a movie at Regal and they were surprised by all the special deals on East Montgomery Avenue. People still don’t know about the restaurant/Regal combos which make for a great local nights out.

Lunching in the DMV: Bubble Tea Cafe

The days are warming up, sending us in search for the perfect refreshing drink. In her search to find a new favorite glass of bubble tea, Dskco went to the Bubble Tea Cafe on Rollins Avenue (where Twinbrook Parkway turns into Rollins). She was pretty happy with the results and plans on going back.
The other week the bf and I craved a refreshing drink, so before grocery shopping we stopped by Bubble Tea Cafe in Rockville. I was looking for a cafe to replace my beloved Bubble Mix (out of business) which I used to frequent 3 times a week in College Park years ago. This place is like a grown up version of that place. Parking is located on the sides and behind the building. The closest metro stop is Twinbrook on the red line.
Sometimes I’m in the mood for bubble tea and I didn’t know this shop was tucked away in Rockville. Although a couple of others are closer to home, this could be a cozy, out-of-the-way place to take a break. Plus I always found the bubbles to be chewy and apparently, they don’t have to be!
A recent New York Times article on food blogging puts New Jersey (my beloved home state) at the forefront of local people snapping pictures of restaurants for a multitude of blogs. Restaurant owners have become completely accustomed to patrons posting the pictures everywhere. I couldn’t help but think of our Dskco! Her pictures provide a perfect sense of place for all of her restaurant excursions.

Lunching in the DMV: A&J
>

Our local Rockville restaurant reviewer, Dskco, stopped by A & J for dim sum and she gives us the full scoop on this small restaurant tucked away from Rockville Pike. Once again, she visited a place I’ve never tried:
My dad took me and the bf out to lunch last week for my belated birthday (snow and football season = dad’s busy) so I picked the Northern Chinese-style dim sum place called A&J. Located on Rockville Pike in a small shopping center, there’s limited parking, but its free. The closest metro station is Twinbrook on the red line. You can’t really see this place from the road because it’s down a hill, which is why I never knew it was there.
The price is certainly right and a full, hidden-away restaurant always means a good meal.
Lately, Dskco has also been sharing some of her cooking experiences. I had seen a recipe for Chocolate Lava Cake and wondered about the process. Dskco showed me how to whip it up.

Lunching In The DMV: Sushi Damo

In her latest review on Lunching in the DMV, Dskco was out to celebrate her birthday, which meant a visit to both Susahi Damo (for dinner) and Gordon Biersch (for dessert).
I had a great birthday weekend a few weeks ago. On New Years Day, the bf took me to Rockville Town Square for dinner at Sushi Damo, dessert at Gordon Biersh and Regal to watch Avatar in 3D (go see it if you haven’t yet!).
Sushi Damo is the bf’s favorite sushi place. Located in Rockville Town Square, there’s paid parking, meter and free parking all over the place. We parked at the theater for $1 since we were going to see a movie anyway. The closest metro stop would be Rockville on the red line.
As always, Dskco entices with her photos taking you right along for the discoveries. Read to find out about Green Tea Tiramisu and her birthday good time.

Lunching in the DMV: Carmen's
>
I know it’s COLD outside and you may not be thinking about a frozen treat, but Dskco stopped over to my family’s favorite destination, Carmen’s Italian Ice and wrote up a review for her Lunching in the DMV blog.
Last month my friends and I wanted something sweet and decided to go to Carmen’s. They are known for their Italian ice, custard, and gelatis. Located in Rockville off I-270, exit 6A, there is plenty of parking in the front lot. The closest metro stop would be Rockville on the red line.
Take a read. She decided it’s affordablew and way better than Rita’s!

Lunching in the DMV: Bob's Noodle 66
Department: News

I’m constantly driving up and down North Washington Street and have never tried Bob’s Noodle 66. Thanks to Dskco for reviewing this very local restaurant on her Lunching in the DMV blog.
My cousin has been craving “Stinky Tofu” so a bunch of us went to Bob’s Noodle 66 in Rockville. It’s a very popular Taiwanese style restaurant. You won’t find General Tso’s chicken on this menu. Located in downtown Rockville behind Orange Ball Billiads, there is plenty of free parking. The closest metro stop is Rockville on the red line.
Sounds like this is an exotic restaurant with just about ANYTHING on the menu! Thanks to Dskco’s usual photography, everything looks delicious. Payment and language make Bob’s Noodle 66 a unique little find.

Lunching in the DMV: Rolls 'n Rice

I go to LA Boxing at least three times a week and never noticed the new restaurant Rolls ‘n Rice in the same strip mall. This is exactly why I need Dskco to point me in the right restaurant direction with her Lunching in the DMV blog and her most recent review of Rolls ‘n Rice.
My coworker recommended that I try this new sushi place in Rockville called Rolls ‘n Rice. It’s been open for around 2-3 months. It’s located in the old Lemon Tree space, which is in the Congressional Village shopping center. There are 2 entrances, but the one in the back has all of the free parking. The closest metro station would be Twinbrook on the red line.
Dskco’s plentiful photos give you a real feel for the place. Looks like a very full and fresh dish for around $12, a pretty good deal.

Lunching in the DMV: Niwano Hana
>Hungry for sushi? If not, you will be after reading Dskco’s review of Niwano Hana on Lunching In the DMV. She recommends the Special Rolls and the host, who can sometimes be seen wearing purple suits!
Hi everyone! I wanted sushi recently so the bf was nice enough to satisfy my craving by taking me to Niwano Hana. It’s my ‘go-to’ sushi place if I want something a little more special in terms of rolls. It is located on Rockville Pike in Wintergreen Plaza with the closest metro stop being Rockville on the Red Line. There is plenty of free parking in the shopping center, but it can get crowded.
We’re pleased to be able to link to Dskco’s restaurant reviews and hope you enjoy reading them as much as we do.
