Dskco — now going by ‘Marie’ — dined at Seven Seas Chinese Restaurant the other day and filed a positive report in her blog Lunching In The DMV:

Food came out fast! The menu is big and offers Chinese and Japanese food. We opted for only Chinese food and ordered ‘Shrimp Lo Mein’ for $8.95. It was a good amount of noodles. It wasn’t overly salty, drenched in soy sauce or oily. I thought it was great! I’d definitely order it again. . . .

I enjoyed the food a lot. It tasted like good ingredients were used. The service was fast but for some reason we had 3 different servers

Dskco dined at Spice Xing and everything was good. This is so true. I’ve found every bite to be absolutely delicious. Here’s the beginning of her review on Lunching In The DMV:

Friday was date night with the bf, and before watching The Karate Kid (good flick BTW) we had Indian food at Spice Xing. The restaurant was on Washingtonian’s Top 100 Cheap Eats list, so I wanted to try it. We haven’t had Indian food in a while anyway. I kept pronouncing it like “Spice Sing” but the bf corrected me, and it’s “Spice Crossing” haha.

I have to agree about the Karate Kid movie, which I enjoyed. Dskco thinks the nan was the best she’s ever had. Read her full review. She captures the earthy elegance of the restaurant with all her pictures.

I must admit, I’m not up on the Pho restaurants around Rockville. Dskco tried out Pho 95 though she and her family are regulars at Pho 75 which she reviewed previously.

Seems like Evil Ben convinced her to try a new place:

Last night my friend Evil Ben was craving pho, so we hit up his favorite place, Pho 95 in Ritchie Center. That shopping center has India Grill and Jumbo Jumbo Bubble Express too. So there is a lot of free parking, and the closest metro stop is Rockville on the Red Line.

Pho 95 uses a clean tasting broth. Evil Ben thinks a subtle broth allows the noodles, meats and herbs to shine. This would explain why it’s his favorite place.

Dskco deemed the Vietnamese Iced Coffee “perfect” which is good to know as we head into the hot months. I love them!

Always into bubble tea, Dskco can’t get enough, which is good for us. She checked out another place, Jumbo Jumbo Bubble Express, for her blog Lunching in the DMV:

My favorite bubble tea place (Bubble Tea Café) is closed on Mondays, so Evil Ben and I went to try Jumbo Jumbo Bubble Express in Ritchie Center. There is a lot of parking and it is in the same shopping center as India Grill.

Quite frankly, I never even noticed Jumbo Jumbo. There ARE quality places behind the IHOP such as India Grill and El Mariachi. As for the Bubble Express, they do cook the bubbles to the right consistency and it’s a good hang out spot.

Dskco has reviewed an old favorite, Tokoyo Express. Although the restaurant serves Chinese and Japanese, this in only a review of Tokoyo Express.

She says it’s cheap sushi:

Whenever I want cheap sushi that’s close to home, I go to China Taste/Tokyo Express. I’ve been going to this place for about 10 years now. Granted I haven’t been in a while because I’ve been trying new places for the blog, but I had to come back at some point. My mom found this hole in the wall, yey. They have a tiny parking lot that I’ve never seen full. The closest metro is Twinbrook on the red line.

The restaurant seems like a quite a deal. Dskco thinks it’s good for a quick bite but maybe not a big bite.

Lunching In The DMV: El Patio

Dskco found El Patio by chance, as she explains at the start of her review:

The other night the bf suggested we just drive up the road and try some random restaurant. I usually like to research a place, read reviews, etc before eating somewhere. He is the spontaneous one in the relationship, and I admire that about him. We ended up trying an Argentinean Cafe called El Patio on Twinbrook Prwy. I’ve seen this tiny place before, but never thought about stopping by. The parking lot is tiny. The closest metro stop is Twinbrook on the red line.

She thinks the restaurant is like being in a different country. Besides the dining option you’ll also find a bakery and small grocery with packaged goods from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. The food was good and the regulars seemed to be content.

If you’ve ever wondered about Greenberry in Mid-Pike Plaza, she also visited it the same day and her review is here.

The days are warming up, sending us in search for the perfect refreshing drink. In her search to find a new favorite glass of bubble tea, Dskco went to the Bubble Tea Cafe on Rollins Avenue (where Twinbrook Parkway turns into Rollins). She was pretty happy with the results and plans on going back.

The other week the bf and I craved a refreshing drink, so before grocery shopping we stopped by Bubble Tea Cafe in Rockville. I was looking for a cafe to replace my beloved Bubble Mix (out of business) which I used to frequent 3 times a week in College Park years ago. This place is like a grown up version of that place. Parking is located on the sides and behind the building. The closest metro stop is Twinbrook on the red line.

Sometimes I’m in the mood for bubble tea and I didn’t know this shop was tucked away in Rockville. Although a couple of others are closer to home, this could be a cozy, out-of-the-way place to take a break. Plus I always found the bubbles to be chewy and apparently, they don’t have to be!

A recent New York Times article on food blogging puts New Jersey (my beloved home state) at the forefront of local people snapping pictures of restaurants for a multitude of blogs. Restaurant owners have become completely accustomed to patrons posting the pictures everywhere. I couldn’t help but think of our Dskco! Her pictures provide a perfect sense of place for all of her restaurant excursions.

LunchingDMV AJ by Dskco

Our local Rockville restaurant reviewer, Dskco, stopped by A & J for dim sum and she gives us the full scoop on this small restaurant tucked away from Rockville Pike. Once again, she visited a place I’ve never tried:

My dad took me and the bf out to lunch last week for my belated birthday (snow and football season = dad’s busy) so I picked the Northern Chinese-style dim sum place called A&J. Located on Rockville Pike in a small shopping center, there’s limited parking, but its free. The closest metro station is Twinbrook on the red line. You can’t really see this place from the road because it’s down a hill, which is why I never knew it was there.

The price is certainly right and a full, hidden-away restaurant always means a good meal.

Lately, Dskco has also been sharing some of her cooking experiences. I had seen a recipe for Chocolate Lava Cake and wondered about the process. Dskco showed me how to whip it up.

I’m constantly driving up and down North Washington Street and have never tried Bob’s Noodle 66. Thanks to Dskco for reviewing this very local restaurant on her Lunching in the DMV blog.

My cousin has been craving “Stinky Tofu” so a bunch of us went to Bob’s Noodle 66 in Rockville. It’s a very popular Taiwanese style restaurant. You won’t find General Tso’s chicken on this menu. Located in downtown Rockville behind Orange Ball Billiads, there is plenty of free parking. The closest metro stop is Rockville on the red line.

Sounds like this is an exotic restaurant with just about ANYTHING on the menu! Thanks to Dskco’s usual photography, everything looks delicious. Payment and language make Bob’s Noodle 66 a unique little find.

In the mood to try some Japanese food and possibly a catch a Japanese gameshow? Read Dskco’s review of local restaurant Temari.

Ever since trying ramen for the 1st time in NYC, I’ve been on a search. Recommended by friends, the bf and I went to Temari. Located in a green shopping center across the street from Best Buy, I’ve past this restaurant countless times, and didn’t ever notice it. There is plenty of parking in the shopping center, and the closest metro would be either be Twinbrook or Rockville on the red line. It’s pretty much right in the middle of the two.

She also walked around back to a Japanese market called Maruichi. I’ve never noticed the restaurant or the market so I’m glad Dskco visited both. Yet again, we’re very lucky to have the world at our fingertips here in Rockville.

Dskco found a restaurant with live belly dancing, >MemSahib which is behind White Flint Mall. I’ve been down to Marrakesh in DC which was quite a show. This restaurant is just as much fun, but much closer to home.

Dskco’s review on MemSahi begins:

Hi Everyone! Recently the bf was craving Indian food, so a friend recommended MemSahib in Rockville. Mind you, I did no research, nor have I heard of this place prior to going, so it was an interesting experience.

I’m glad Dskco goes and researches these restaurants for us. You need to know when dinner is going to take such a long time!

Dskco and her boyfriend visited Pancake House. On her blog, Lunching in the DMV, she explains why it’s her choice for breakfast and shows plenty of photos to give you a good look at the restaurant.

Hi everyone! Sometimes its nice to sleep in and then head out to get some breakfast. The bf and I decided to get some pancakes and eggs at The Original Pancake House. It happens to be my favorite breakfast joint. It’s located on Rockville Pike near the Randolph Rd intersection. The parking in kind of limited, however the parking lot next to it with the Houston’s has plenty, even though you’re not REALLY supposed to park there.

I’ve never eaten at Pancake House but the place always looks full. Apparently you leave feeling the same way!

Dskco and her boyfriend visited La Tasca in Rockville Town Square, and here’s how she begins her review of the restaurant on her blog, Lunching in the DMV:

Hi everyone, another Iphone post! For my bf’s birthday he wanted to try Paella since he’s seen and heard so much about it on the Travel Channel and Food Network. We decided to go to La Tasca in Rockville to try it out because of their paella and sangria selections.

As Dskco mentions, the price can add up and it’s good but …

>As promised, I’m letting you know about Dskco’s review of Addie’s Restaurant, which she posted on Lunching In the DMV.

Here’s how she begins:

The bf and I recently went to Addie’s since it’s been raining a lot and eating is the best way to spend a rainy day in my opinion. It’s an American restaurant in a converted home in Rockville. There’s free parking in the back and the closest Metro stop is Grosvenor-Strathmore on the red line.

In a nutshell, she likes this small place with a small menu.

Lunching In the DMV, A Cool Restaurant Review Site

Dskco lives in Rockville and admits “I’m a 25 year old female, wh>o loves/adores/fancies to eat out because I’m too lazy to cook!” She hopes her website, Lunching In The DMV, will help those living in the DC Metro area to find good places to dine.

“Lunching” is the DC Metro area term for being absurd, ridiculous, or idiotic (according to Urbandictionary.com) and DMV is (of course) DC, Maryland, Virginia.

Photographs fill each review so you get a real feel for the place even before she describes the food. We highly recommend her balanced, down-to-earth narratives. You’ll know exactly what to expect if you go out to eat at one of these restaurants.

Her latest post describes Mi Rancho which I’ve been wondering about since On the Border closed at this location. She writes,

When you walk in there’s a bar, and then the coolest thing ever, which is their tortilla machine! Some lady got really excited and asked one of the workers there if she could work the machine herself =) Basically a ball of dough is dropped into one side and it goes through and gets flattened and put through its oven and comes out ready to eat.

Since October of 2008, she’s written about these fine Rockville establishments:

Joe’s Noodle House

Mosaic Cuisine

Pho 75

India Grill

Cuban Corner

Yogiberry

Urban Burger

La Brasa

The next review will be of Addie’s. We’ll be sure to let you know when. Every time I go to her site, I get hungry!
