POTD: Peek

A very cool shot by Rockville Central friend Alain Menguy. I filed it away and it only resurfaced now! Bad me. I am glad I re-found this, though, even a couple of weeks late — it is wonderful. Thanks Alain!

POTD: Second Spring
>
This cool shot is by Rockville Central reader Alain Menguy. Of it, he says, “The Albert Camus quote came immediately to my mind ~ ‘Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower.’”
I don’t know about all that philosophy, but I know I like it!

POTD: The Last Day Of Summer
>
This very cool shot was taken by Rockville Central friend Alain Menguy, evidently on . . . The Last Day Of Summer. Thanks Alain!
This photo marks the first time we have published the POTD using our Flickr set. This has our photos going back to May. Since more people use Flickr than Picasa, and since Flickr is easier to work with in the social media world, we are making the changeover. I know that a lot of hardcore photographer friends will be happy with this move!

POTD: Twilight
>

This very cool photo of Saturday night’s Twilight Run was taken by Anais Menguy. Of it, her father, Alain, says: “Even if I was running the Twilight race yesterday night, my daughter Anais had the good idea to grab my camera and took some cool pictures of the race!”

POTD: Placido!
>

Rockville Central friend Alain Menguy sent in this wonderful shot of Placido Domingo. Here was his excited description: “Placido Domingo in Rockville!!! Rare privilege to see him as he was conducting the WNO Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists at Strathmore!”
It’s hard not to agree.

POTD: Thar She Blows!
>

Last Friday’s plaintive POTD about how I was missing a certain bug prompted Rockville Central friend Alain Menguy to spring into action! He sent me this photo asking if this is the bug I was referring to.
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! I miss it. Thanks Alain!
What a gorgeous shot, too.

POTD: The Striking Celestial Trio
>

This wonderful shot is by Rockville Central friend and frequent POTD contributor Alain Menguy, taken on Monday night when you could see the moon, Venus, and Jupiter all together (upper right). Of the photo, Alain says: “The Moon-Jupiter-Venus show was underway this evening in the sky of our fair city. And it was really spectacular! Looks like we won’t see its kind for another 44 years.”

POTD: Tree Of Gold
>

This gorgeous shot is by Rockville Central friend Alain Menguy. Of it, he says: “Right there, at the intersection of Route 28 (Montgomery Avenue) and Wall Street, you can enjoy one of most beautiful trees in the neighborhood - I call it the ‘Tree of Gold’.”
So do we.

POTD: Light The Night
>

This dramatic image was taken Saturday night by Rockville Central friend Alain Menguy.
Of it, he writes: “[This is of] the ’2008 Light The Night Walk’ passing by our neighborhood and honoring lives touched by blood cancer. According to the ‘Light the night’ web-site, walkers carry illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold to commemorate lives lost - to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. . . . It’s kind of special as it’s a very long pause shot (around 8sec.) with no tripod, giving more an ‘impressionist’ scene than the reality . . . But I really like the results!”
So do we.

This beautiful shot of sunflowers is by Rockville Central friend Alain Menguy. Of it he says, “What about a couple of sunflowers hanging there on Montgomery Avenue (route 28) as a symbolic end of the summer?” I say, “Sure!”

POTD: Stop Time!
>

This remarkable image is by Rockville Central reader Alain Menguy. It is actually five superimposed “High Dynamic Range” images. I don’t know about all that; I just think it looks incredibly cool.
Of the photo, Alain says: “Please stop the time! This is Spring in Rockville with no traffic on Route 28 (Montgomery Avenue).”
