Wow this sounds so cool! I can pass for 21, right…?
I don’t think you can! You’ll have to wait for a different 15 seconds of fame.
Ugh. I despise rap music and it’s associated culture.
It’s mass popularity speaks volumes for all that’s wrong with society today.
How can that even be considered music?
Anyone can fire up a vocoder, and autotune themselves to a computer generated beat.
Rap music is degrading pop culture music as a whole.
Not to mention most rap music encourages violence, and inspires youth to act “gangster.”
Not all rap is bad. I listened to about half of this song and it sounded rather uplifting. The singer is extolling the virtue of working hard to develop a talent, just like Phelps did. Sounds fine to me.
More importantly, I heartily applaud the management of the Rooftop for seeking out new uses for this space. We all want to see Visarts succeed. So, bravo! And best of luck to a local son.
Thanks for sharing this, Cindy.
I don’t care for rap myself, but I’m also old enough to recall when people said that disco music was going to destroy us all, with its cocaine and hedonism and polyester, and then it was punk that was going to ruin everything. I remember grandma telling me how “naughty” her generation was in the 1920s, and that her parents thought Rudy Vallee was depraved.
Yawn. Wake me up when something new comes along.
I want to know how much revenue the City receives from these rooftop events.
Brigitta,
Generally the easiest way to get such information is to ask the City staff directly. You can usually get an answer within 24 hours.
With respect to Rooftop revenue:
In 2010, the City of Rockville is receiving 20% commission on established Rooftop rental fees. The City’s percentage is small, because the management and operational costs of the facility have been contracted out. The outsourced management for The Rooftop retains 80% of the rental fee to cover costs associated with their event staff, cleaning services, administrative overhead, etc. The rental fee may or may not be the only fee paid by a Rooftop client to The Rooftop management. Total fees charged to a Rooftop client vary from event to event based on the actual needs and services rendered beyond the basic rental for use of the facility. The City’s business focus has been on establishing The Rooftop venue as an active Town Center destination. Terms of the management contract are reviewed annually. Note in 2009, the City of Rockville received only 15% of the client’s rental fee. The 2010 Rooftop rental season is projected to provide the City of Rockville with $10,000 in revenue.
Please have the City Council consider what the Vis Arts facility costs the City of Rockville and what revenue is collected especially when a new plan for the Redgate Golf Course is discussed.
The Rooftop is only one aspect of the entire Vis Arts facility cost. Remember I was a budget office and signed off on expenditures and have a sense of how budgets are formulated and executed. One group approves the budgets and others manage the expenditure details. The devil is in the details.
I find it interesting how the Council leaves correspondence to staff to answer. Sometimes it is appropriate to have correspondence directly to the Council. That is one reason why I elect the Mayor and Council to represent me.
Piotr thank you for the information. I like receiving information from my council members. It shows good communication and confirms the details you have been provided.
Great song !!!!! I love the concept —> I’m feeling like an olympian “Do That Michael Phepls”, hay!! !!! Does he even know about that Adam-Bomb made a song about him?… If not he should, this is very possitive. keep up the good work
