This one is by editor Cindy Cotte Griffiths. Of it,she says: “He can’t read the “NO SKATING” sign. We caught this little frog fellow at Stoneridge Pond during his slippery journey. Once you get out to the middle, there really is no turning back.” Indeed.

That is the weirdest thing I have ever seen during the winter. I’m trying to imagine how he got there in this cold….???

The sign may say “No Skating” it does not say “No Hopping”.

Hopping is definitely not banded for frogs, but it should be. Have you ever tried to hop on ice? The frog spent a fair amount of time in a four limb spread eagle whenever he tried to move.

Theories are hopping rampant: a pet let loose, an animal frightened him out of the ground, or the unusually cold temps brought him out of hibernation because he was close to freezing.

But….but….they’re cold-blooded! The cold shouldn’t wake them, the Spring thaw should wake them! Right now they should be hibernating at the BOTTOM of the pond! Darn mutant frogs with anti-freeze for blood. LOL
