Back To Drinking Rockville Water
Rockville’s Water Treatment Plant (WTP) went back online last Friday, October 8, 2010. Therefore our pipes have been providing water from Rockville’s Department of Public Works rather than the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) since last Friday afternoon. This accomplishment was a full week ahead of schedule due to the hard work of Rockville’s staff and the contractors.
As we know, the water main connecting Rockville’s customers to the WTP, has been out of service since July 12, 2010 due to the water main breaks on July 7th and 12th. All of the City’s pipes needed to be inspected then the malfunctioning pipes and valves needed to be replaced. Replacement of the surge tank also needed to occur and since this project was already approved in CIP, the installation was contracted to be completed by October 16th, which became the deadline to have the entire system back in service.
Craig Simoneau, Director of Public Works, commented that “This was a significant accomplishment for which we are all proud.”
We join in giving the Department of Public Works a big “high five” for a job well done ahead of schedule!
